Caprese Salad Recipe With Carapelli’s Extra Virgin Olive Oil

I love to cook, so I know that freshness and quality ingredients matter when considering the flavor of each dish. I have tried many different olive oils over the years and this one really takes the cake. Did you know that you can taste olive oil, similar to tasting wine? It’s actually pretty neat. Here are the 4 S’s to follow and make note of when tasting olive oil (I tried them myself):

First Swirl the olive oil in your glass to release the oil’s esters to smell the aroma.

Next, you’ll Sniff by giving a deep inhale. I did this and it seemed to give off a lighter scent than I have smelled before. The aroma is the key to the fruitiness of the oil.

Then, you Slurp. Sip the oil while “sipping” in a bit of air to spread it throughout your mouth. Carapelli’s Premium was very smooth.

Once you are ready, Swallow the oil. There should be no aftertaste, and there definitely was not after my taste test.

I enjoyed sampling Carapelli’s Extra Virgin Olive Oil and I decided that I would try out a recipe that I frequent. One of my favorite, light snacks to make with olive oil is a Caprese Salad, an Italian favorite starring fresh tomatoes and mozzerella cheese. I can scarf one of these down at any time of day, it is fresh, healthy, extremely simple and down right delicious. This dish also makes the perfect appetizer or crowd pleaser, try it yourself, no cooking required…

Caprese Salad Snack
 
Ingredients:
1 tsp. Carapelli Olive Oil
8 oz. Cherry Tomatoes
8 oz. Mozzerella Cheese Balls (in water)
Fresh Basil Leaves, chopped
Salt and Pepper

Wash the cherry tomatoes, drain the mozzerella balls and chop the basil up real nice. Combine these three ingredients in a bowl. Pour in the Carapelli Extra Virgin Olive Oil and season with salt and pepper to taste. Toss the entire mixture lightly and place in a serving dish. If you have any basil left, you can put a few leaves on top as garnish. That’s it!

Bonus: Drizzle over a little balsalmic vinegar and treat your taste buds to bliss.
This recipe is the perfect size snack serving for 2. If you are looking to make a nice appetizer for a larger crowd, I would suggest tripling the ingredients. The Caprese Salad  was amazing with the Carapelli Extra Virgin Olive Oil, such a high-quality, premium taste. It really makes a difference in bringing out the flavor of the dish.
