5 Steps to Planning the perfect day in Lake Placid

With so much to do in Lake Placid during the winter months, there are no limits to what you can choose to plan their perfect day in the mountains. Love to sit out and read on the porch looking over the lake? Maybe you’re an adventurous down-hill skier? Or could you be looking for a snow hiking trail? I know exactly how I would spend my day at Lake Placid with my family, check out my steps to make my day perfect!

1. Morning hike in snowshoes

With more than 2,000 miles of walkable terrain, the Adirondack trail system will allow you to take in the fresh air and beautiful scenery of the great outdoors. ” This will be a first for me. I love a good ol’ hike, but in the snow? Basically, you put on these snowshoes, which are available at most resorts for rental, and trek through the snow on the trails of the Adirondack mountains. It is becoming increasingly popular for winter sports training, burning 600 calories per hour on average.

2. Snow play, sledding, tubing and tobogganing

The snow is plentiful during the winter months, which covers the hills and slopes for the perfect place to play! Bundle up the kiddos and take advantage of sledding, tubing and tobogganing, these hills are much steeper than your backyard! I would be first in line to go down the toboggan chute, sending me straight across the frozen lake!

3. Dog sled rides

We all know that when there’s snow, there’s skiing and sledding. But when the lake freezes over, it’s time for dog sled rides! When the ice is thick enough, you can actually go right down to the lake and pay a tour operator to hop on for a ride. Now this has always been on my bucket list, and I know my kids will love it too!

4. Visit the Wild Center

Interested in the wildlife of the Adirondacks? The wild center is “located on 81 acres in the geographic center of the Adirondacks, The Wild Center highlights the unique world which surrounds it.  With great expanses of nature, sprinkled with small towns and communities throughout, the Adirondacks can set an example for a future where humans and nature can thrive together.” There are so many plants and animals in the area, and the exhibits, programs and experiences will expose you to all of it. Also, there is a Wild Walk sky bridge that is 850 foot long, towering above the forest for magnificent views.

5. Spa relaxation at our resort

There are a multitude of hotels, cabins, lodges, hostels, bed & breakfasts and resorts in the area, but I have my sights set on the Whiteface Lodge Resort & Spa. The rustic charm of this hotel looks to be stunning, it is perfect for families and offers a first class experience you’ll never forget. It has a spa onsite, which is the perfect way for me to end the day. This itinerary is action packed, so a relaxing aroma sensory massage, a soak in the jet tub, and a cup of hot coca by the fire will be needed.
