Take a winter cruise to Norway

You all should know by now that my bucket list is miles long. It looks like I will be adding yet another lifetime memory: taking a winter cruise through Norway!

Tromsø to Kirkenes
Who really travels TO the snow in the winter? Well, anyone who appreciates the beauty of a snowy Norwegian landscape and its numerous frozen expeditions would be thrilled to experience such an amazing Arctic wilderness! Hurtigruten Cruises offers plenty of voyages through Norway, which boasts lots of gorgeous scenery, a look at Norwegian villages, lots of activities, and encounters through more than 1,000 miles of Norway’s pristine coastal waterway. You can take in all of the beauty and explore it all on a Hurtigruten cruise!

The "bridge-town"
So much to encounter in Norway, the sights, experiences, and possibilities are endless. Here are 5 reasons I can’t wait to add a Norwegian winter cruise to my bucket list.

5 Reasons To Take A Norway Cruise this Winter

1. The Northern Lights

This is the number 1 reason that I want to take a Norwegian voyage. Due to the location and various combinations of particles in the atmosphere,  sun flares, and energy, the Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, lights up the sky in a fascinating display of color and light. Locals and travelers alike marvel at the mere sight, apparently, you can see the natural phenomenon much better when the ground is covered in snow. So, winter it is!

2. Dog sledding safari

Don’t you look at movies and such and wish you could be pulled on a sleigh by dogs? Well, you can in Norway! They have a thrilling excursion where you can take a husky dog sled ride! Glide across the snow-covered landscape and take in views of the ocean, mountains, and hopefully, the Northern Lights.

3. Hurtigruten offers a luxury cruising experience

Hurtigruten cruises are designed to immerse you in the experience. The itineraries they create take guests right into the thick of the local culture and landscape, cruising the top tourist areas up and down the coasts. “Each Hurtigruten departure is a purposeful voyage providing a transportation lifeline between cities and villages while exploring stunning fjords and UNESCO World Heritage sites along the more than 1,000 miles of Norway’s pristine coastal waterway. This mixture of local encounters, spectacular scenery and utterly unique shore activities provides an unmatched opportunity to experience and interact with the beauty and charm of Norway and it’s people. Hurtigruten’s 11 ships depart almost every day of the year, from 34 ports along the Norwegian Coast.”

4. Sightseeing in Norway’s capital

See the history of Norway’s original capital, Trondheim, on foot, enjoying the architecture, markets, shops, restaurants, and the cathedral. The colorful buildings and cathedral “Norway’s original capital, Trondheim, was founded as early as 997 by the Viking King Olav Tryggvason, who gave the town the name Nidaros. Trondheim is a large city by Norwegian standards, though it has still managed to preserve many of the charms and intimacy of a small town. It is also a city full of contrasts, with monastery ruins, impressive wooden buildings, colourful wharves, and a beautiful red-painted city bridge dating back to 1861.”

5. Kirkenes Snow Hotel

When you embark on Hurtigruten Cruises in Norway, you’ll be in true polar temperatures. Is it possible to stay in a hotel made out of snow? YES! The Kirkenes Snow Hotel is made out of snow, it stays under 4 degrees Celsius inside, and each room has a special ice art sculpture. You will actually be sleeping in a snow-covered room. I don’t know if I would want to stay overnight, but they have an ice bar where I would love to check out the ice sculptures and order a drink. Very cool, literally!
