Is it already 2018 for real? I will admit that I was not ready for how fast 2017 went, I mean, I *knew* it was coming but it still caught me off guard! I wanted to do so much more, see so much more, BE so much more, and I feel like the older I get, the faster time flies.

Here’s How To Get What You Want Out Of Life

Anyway, I am at a crossroads in my life right now and I needed to do some soul searching. I am mid-30’s, mid-career, mid-family, mid-everything and I just want to be able to have some direction, balance, and a little bit of knowledge to figure out where I am going. A weak one-time resolution is not going to cut it, nah. Tell me how to get what I want out of life. Tell me what to do to make it real! The coming of a new year is a great time to sit back and figure out a way to create the life you want to live.

First, let’s figure out what you want out of life

Let me start off by saying that I kinda sorta know what I want out of my life, but I may never be able to reach everything I want or need. I want meaningful connections with family and friends, enough resources to make ends meet without worry, a sense of value and purpose, and enough time in each day to be able to do the things that I love to do.

To figure out how to get what you want out of life, sit down, and create a list of all of the things you want and need for the long run. Is it marriage? Kids? Clarity? World peace? Eliminating financial stress? Learn a new language? A new career? Also, make a small list of the things you want to shed, such as self-doubt, unhealthy habits, toxic people, and anything else that has been clutter in your life. Now, rip up and throw this list away and focus on the list of positive things. Next to each one, write what you’re doing, or will do, to make it happen. Make the changes. Live the life you deserve!

Practice simplicity

This has been a priority for the past 3 years for me. It helps me cut out the extras all over the place. I live in a simple home, I (try to) eat and drink the same simple healthy foods, I keep the same small and simple circle of friends, and I enjoy a simple life routine. All of this helps me in so many ways, I save money, save time, and I save sanity, and that’s really the most important thing to me. It’s time for you to identify what you need in your life, and what you can cut out. Living a simple life means you have less to worry about, and more time and energy for the things and people you love.

Identify your strengths and work harder

This goes back to the first step. Once you’ve figured out what it is that you want out of life, it’s time to go full steam ahead! You know what you’re good at, and how you can improve. If you need more money, work the overtime. Start a side hustle. If you’ve been a poor friend, make the call. If you’re considering a career change, learn, and research.  Have you been neglecting your spouse? Make the time. The harder you work, the faster things will fall into place. That’s a positive step in the direction of how to get what you want out of life.

Self-care is always a good idea

When creating the life you want, I think self-care is a really important thing to keep up on. Our own health and well being should be a top priority, and too often, people neglect themselves. Self-care is a great way to get what you want out of life, after all, it is participating in the things you enjoy. What fun is life if you’re not doing the things you love? Here are some self-care ideas to try.

Speak the positive into existence

Speaking things into existence has become my life’s mantra. If you’re negative and think the worst of every situation, then guess what? Your whole attitude reflects those beliefs and you will manifest them in your life. Instead of saying, “I’m definitely going to fail this test,” think about what you need to do to NOT fail. “I know that I need to study harder to do well on this test, but I got this!” There. That’s better. Why would you want to walk into any situation with a negative outlook? Part of creating the life you want to live is professing how you want to live it. Positivity is contagious, pass it on!

This is a work in progress, but I feel good about how far I’ve come. To be honest, I still am not 100% sure where my life is going or the path it will take. But who does know? I think the most important thing in creating the life you want is to be knowledgable about what you’re doing, feel comfortable with your decisions, surrounded by amazing people, and that it is all self-fulfilling. Know that when you work to create the life you want to live, there are no constants. No guarantees. Life is as great as you make the journey, so go out and live!
