Beautiful Cozumel Mexico pictures

I’ve recently returned from an amazing week in Cozumel, Mexico. My goodness, I was in need of some sun and relaxation! I know when I need an escape, I can feel it coming on. Typically, October through early December are the busiest months for me, but by the time I got to the first couple weeks of December – BURN OUT!

My sister and I were actually planning a trip but we couldn’t decide where to go. As December 25th rolled on by, she booked Cozumel for the two of us! This popular tourist destination was the best Christmas present EVER. This tropical island off the Caribbean coast of Mexico is full of amazing things to explore.

Where is Cozumel?

Cozumel is actually an island off of the eastern coast of Mexico, it lies in the Caribbean Sea and the weather in Cozumel, Mexico is always warm. 75 and sunny, baby! It does rain occasionally, but tropical rain storms tend to last an hour or so and the sun is back in action.

There are so many attractions to experience and things to do in Cozumel. We stayed at the Melia Cozumel Golf and Beach Resort, it’s an all-inclusive hotel on the north side of the island, sits on a gorgeous beach, and is full of all of the resort amenities you’ll love!

In addition to staying at an all-inclusive resort in Cozumel, we also took a catamaran and snorkeling tour, danced on the boat, tasted every tequila probably ever made, ate tacos, swam in the ocean, strolled through the streets of Downtown San Miguel, and toasted to the new year! Here are some pictures of Cozumel Mexico, you’ll soon be searching for flights!

Hotel Note: The food was mediocre, so if you travel for the love of food, it won’t be here. Trust me.

Exploring the main town of San Miguel

4. We took a short taxi ride down to the San Miguel area to explore their downtown scene. It’s right at the cruise ship port of Cozumel, so it’s a lovely waterfront walk bustling with people, lots of restaurants, shops, a museum, a market, and other activities.

9-10. It’s time to hop on a catamaran! We took a Cozumel snorkeling tour with Fury Catamarans and loved it. We stopped at two snorkeling spots where we spotted a coral reef, and dozens of colorful tropical fish, then hit Fury’s private white sand beach for a hamburger lunch and water activities galore!

Is Cozumel, Mexico safe to visit?

Yes! All of the crazy news you hear about Mexico IS true, but you’ve got to remember that this is a small island that takes about an hour boat ride to get to from the mainland. Like any city in the world, they’ve got petty theft, but for the most part, this is a very touristy place and violent crimes are rare.

I actually talked to a few of the locals and they told me that the vast majority of adults work in the hospitality and tourism industries on the island, meaning that there is employment opportunity. Their parents moved to Cozumel from Cancun, Yucatan, and other Mexican areas to get away from the problems they’d been experiencing. Three different locals had relatively this same story, “My parents came to Cozumel to make a better life.”
