12 Warm Winter Vacations Destinations

1. San Diego, California, USA

Ok, so full disclosure: I am from San Diego. I live here, so I can firmly tell my true experiences with the weather! It never really gets below 50 degrees here, so no matter what time of year you visit, you’ll enjoy the beaches, the San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Legoland, Seaport Village, Belmont Park, Coronado Island, Old Town, and all of the great attractions San Diego has to offer! Chances are that when you visit San Diego, you’ll experience one of the top warm winter vacations in the USA.

2. Orlando, Florida, USA

Orlando is the home of the theme parks, plus is one of the favorite warm places to visit in the USA! Whether you’re visiting Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World, or one of the many water parks they have, you’ll have a blast! Plus, there are more great family activities outside of theme parks in Orlando to explore.

3. Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

When thinking of warm winter family destinations, Mexico is at the top of the list. I haven’t been to Puerto Vallarta, but I have heard so many great things about this beautiful destination in the Pacific! It is known for its beaches, water sports, and bustling nightlife, and there are plenty of things to do with the whole family. Go to VisitPuertoVallarta.com to plan your trip, I am personally interested in swimming with the dolphins!

If you happen to visit Cabo, make sure to check out the Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos resort!

Panama, fresh open air market in Penonome

4. Panama City, Panama

Central America is a warm exotic haven for travelers, and Panama is a great place to spend some leisure time, as well as find great family adventure! This country lies between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans and features cityscapes and upscale resorts, all the way down to natural waterfalls and rural terrain. Be sure to visit the famous Panama Canal!

5. San Juan, Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is one of the top travel destinations where it’s warm in the winter. A short distance south of the United States lies the gorgeous island of Puerto Rico. It’s actually a US territory, so you don’t need a passport to travel here! Puerto Rico is home to stunning white sand beaches, beautiful resorts, coral reefs perfect for snorkelers and divers, and it has the only tropical rain forest in the entire United States! Drink from a fresh coconut on Manuel Antonio beach, Costa Rica

6. Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica

I’ve been to Costa Rica twice and I will definitely be returning! This is one of my most favorite exotic adventures to date, the beach meets the mountains, and the wildlife is abundant! You’ll see the green mountains meet the beautiful beach, and you can splash around in the ocean, hike the Manuel Antonio National Park, look up into the trees and see swinging monkeys, take a tour to zip line across the rain forest, spy a slow-moving sloth, and, wait, what’s that bird flying overhead? A wild toucan! Such a beautiful paradise, one we never see in the U.S.

7. Ambergris Caye, Belize

Ambergris Caye. This little island right off of the east coast of Belize has been on my bucket list for years. The water is absolutely gorgeous, there’s a reef in the area so you know that snorkeling and diving is popular. The town of San Pedro is the perfect, quaint little getaway on the island, you get around on golf carts. Ambergris Caye is not overly inhabited by tourists, it really looks like a wonderful paradise to relax and unwind!

8. Lima, Peru

Lima is one of South America’s largest metropolitan cities, situated very close to the Pacific Ocean. The winter weather is usually in the high 70’s, so it’s a nice time of year to explore Peru! Lima has lots of great historical sites and museums, the beach is nearby, there are plenty of parks, playgrounds, and family-friendly resorts to stay at. Plus, a short commuter flight can take you inland to the highly renowned hike through the Andes Mountains to Machu Picchu! I have not been to Peru, but I know that it’s one of the most popular travel destinations where it’s warm in the winter.

Curacao, iconic, colorful buildings in Willemstad

9. Willemstad, Curacao

I had the pleasure of visiting Curacao in 2012 during Carnival! This little island is situated in the Caribbean Ocean and is one of the “ABC Islands.” It has a very laid back, relaxing vibe, not overly touristy like some of the larger islands, but there are plenty of things to do. You can stay anywhere on the island, but make sure to visit Willemstad and catch a glimpse of the vibrant colorful buildings and explore or veg out on their beautiful beaches! This was one of my favorite destinations where it’s warm in the winter.

10. Cape Town, South Africa

Looking to do it big? At the bottom of the continent of Africa along the western coast, the weather in Cape Town, South Africa is always lovely. Take the family to visit one of their National parks, frolic along the beaches and take the kids on a child-friendly safari. If you’re in the USA, it is a far trek, but well worth it, I’m sure!

11. Turk and Caicos Islands

I am currently dying of jealousy, lots of my friends are in Turks and Caicos for a social media conference! They’re all staying at the Beaches Resort and having an amazing time, kids included. I would love to take my kids, they haven’t been to the Caribbean yet and this resort looks amazing! One of the best times to visit the Caribbean is in late November through December, and it’s a little over an hour flight outside of Miami. I’d say go for it!

12. Maui, Hawaii

Hawai’i is one of the top places to look when researching warm winter vacations. Maui has been on the bucket list for quite some time now, can you believe that I have yet to visit? I have been to Hawaii, but it’s been a few years and I only visited Honolulu. Maui is a Hawaiian paradise that is perfect for families, offering gorgeous weather and beautiful scenery, surf, sun, and sand! I would love to take the kids on a hike to see the waterfall in Hana.
