Do y’all remember when I shared my green cleaning recipe that is natural, affordable and harmless? Well, the key ingredient is vinegar, and it turns out that there are a bunch of different uses for it. Apple cider vinegar is a favorite of mine, it comes in handy as a cleaning agent, a part of a beauty regimen, and in the kitchen.
Here are a few ways that apple cider vinegar could be a great staple addition to your family’s pantry:
5 Household Uses for Apple Cider Vinegar
Cooking – Whether it’s a delicious slow cooked roast or a light salad dressing, apple cider vinegar gives the kick it needs! I use vinegar in my greens, it’s just not the same without it. Apple cider vinegar has a bunch of nutrients and minerals, visit the Heinz Vinegar recipe page for delicious ideas!
Pets – Apple cider vinegar is good for fighting fleas for dogs and cats. A little vinegar, water, salt and baking soda spray can become a flea fighting machine in a bottle! Apparently, fleas cannot stand the smell or taste of apple cider vinegar. It is also good for skin infections, ear cleaning and effective at removing foul stenches.
Beauty – There are plenty of health and beauty uses for apple cider vinegar. Rinse your hair with vinegar to remove build up. Swish with part water/part vinegar as a natural mouth wash. Pour vinegar into your bath water to draw toxins out of the skin.
Sore Throats – This is a big one for our household. I don’t really like to give my kids medicine, so a natural apple cider vinegar swish has worked well for us. Combine approximately 1 tbsp. of Heinz apple cider vinegar and 1 tbsp. of honey in in 1 cup of warm water. Dissolve and sip slowly. I have gone back and forth between this and hot tea, it really soothes the throat.
Cleaning – I am all about cleaning with vinegar, just look at this green surface cleaner recipe I have been using for years now. You can use some apple cider vinegar as a disinfectant to clean pretty much any surface. It also effectively cleans and disinfects the garbage disposal, no more stench from old food.
Our kitchen pantry gets plenty of love during the day, all of the snacks are waiting to be eaten! It can get pretty dirty, so I use an apple cider and vinegar mixture of equal parts and give our cabinets a nice scrub. It works wonders! Side note: I think my cabinets need a paint job.
When I purchase apple cider vinegar, Heinz in my go-to brand. There is an unfiltered variety as well, which is at it’s purest and most natural form. I have not tried cooking with this one, but it is sourced with apples and corn and apparently brings out quite a nice flavor in different recipes.
