Y’all remember when I told you all about my time at the Disney Social Media Moms conference? There were so many things that I got insight from, so much to see and do. It was an amazing experience, whether it’s Disney Parks, Disney Channel, or their animated films, or other media outlets, Disney always has something exciting up their sleeves!

Families listen to Disney Junior stars reading books

As a mother with young children, one of the best initiatives we heard about was Disney Junior’s Give a Book, Get a Book program. It’s primary focus is to get books into the hands of children nationwide with a little help from the community.

Disney-Junior-Give-A-Book-Get-A-BookCitizens everywhere can get in on the fun and help out a good cause. Here’s how it works:

  • Disney has partnered with First Book to provide books to donate to U.S. communities in need, up to 1 million books!
  • When families purchase a specially marked Disney Junior product or book, you’ll receive a redemption code offering a free Disney Digital book.
  • With the selection of your digital book, you can also select a book for Disney to donate on your behalf.

Early reading and literacy comprehension are important for kids to grasp to prepare children, these building blocks help make them life long learners in school and beyond. Disney is making it easy for families to experience the notion of “giving back” with the Give a Book, Get a Book program.

To kick things off, a few Disney celebrities came out to the Disneyland Hotel to help introduce the program to us and read a few stories aloud to the kids. Ariel Winter, Tim Gunn and David Arquette took turns reading to the large crowd, as well as the award winning Reading Rainbow’s Levar Burton, who is a long time advocate of literacy and reading for children. I remember I loved watching him as a child, so I was glad to see that he is still heavily invested!

I got to meet Disney Junior’s Choo Choo Soul queen, Genevieve Goings, she was on hand to support the Give a book, Get a book initiative.  I have been My kids have watching her since my youngest was little, probably since 2009. I love that Disney brought a soulful element to their programming, Goings and her co-star DC are perfect for it!
