ABC’s The Real O’Neals TV show is such a fun comedy. We went to visit the set AND met the cast of The Real O’Neals, such an awesome experience to get a behind the scenes look at the show!
When I was in Los Angeles with Disney, we got the chance to go behind the scenes and visit the set of The Real O’Neals, one of ABC’s newer TV comedies! This show tells the story about a less than perfect family in Chicago that is attempting to live their lives according to their conservative standards. Despite this facade, The O’Neals have a few personal secrets that they reveal to each other – one of the kids is anorexic, another came out as gay, and the parents are hinting at divorce – looks like they’re not so perfect after all!
Visiting The Set and Meeting The Cast of The Real O’Neals!
The entire cast of The Real O’Neals and crew were amazing, they walked us through the set, and talked a lot about the process of filming the show. We actually got a tour from actors Bebe Wood and Matt Shively themselves! I took a whole bunch of photos, as you can see, it’s Christmas time on the show. They are currently filming episodes that will air in December, it takes about 5 days to shoot one episode and a whole lot longer to edit and format for television.
I love the interior of the house on set, it looks so homey with special touches and decorations throughout. There are books lined up imperfectly on the book case, family photos, worn furniture and pillows, giving off a very warm feel to the house. I just want to snuggle up on the couch and sing Christmas carols in front of the fire place!
As we were shown around the backstage area by the cast of The Real O’Neals, we noticed that there was a shed in the backyard that looked ready for filming. We have not yet seen the shed in the show, so I wonder who is going to be living there? This might be a glimpse of what could happen in future episodes, an argument, perhaps?
Also backstage is a snowy winter scene, it took 24 hours for them to transform the backyard and make it “snow” for their December episodes. Pretty neat, it actually looks like someone’s backyard during the winter months!

Tonight’s Halloween episode looks like a good one, in order to stop Kenny from going to the Halloween costume parade, his mother Eileen allows him to throw is own party at their house. All of his gay friends join the party, and Kenny makes a major costume change that tests Eileen’s patience! Watch the trailer below…
