We interviewed Chris Pratt as Star Lord in the new Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, we’re so excited for you all to see the movie! See what he thought about working with Kurt Russell and how he stayed in shape for the role!
As a part of our Guardians of the Galaxy movie experience in Los Angeles, we not only attended the movie’s world premiere, but we also interviewed many of the cast members during the press day. It was so cool to see Chris Pratt as Star Lord in the movie, but even better to be able to see him in person!
Well, if you don’t know who Chris Pratt is (shame, shame), he plays Star Lord in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. We got the chance to sit down and chat with him about the new film, and he was such a great guy. He walks in the room with this amazing smile on his face, so excited to see us. Talk about flattery!
5 Things We Learned About Chris Pratt As Star Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2
1. There is a budding relationship with his father
Pratt says he was excited about this, the first movie was a little different in that it focused on him and his mother. In Volume 2, you’ll see a little more of a growing relationship with his father, which Pratt thinks is quite the “contemporary story, and there’s a lot of kids that are gonna relate to that, whose dads weren’t around. And who have another man in their life who’s been responsible for raising them.”
2. Pratt didn’t completely follow the written script
Although the director James Gunn knows his voice well and wrote his parts to fit him, Pratt still improved some of the lines that mad it into the movie! “There are a few jokes that I improv that made it [in the movie]. We’d done that scene a bunch of times and they had to do it again so I knew they already had whatever the line that was written. That’s my room to play.” Keep your ears open for an inappropriate line by Star Lord in the movie!
3. Pratt was thrilled for Kurt Russell to play along side him!
Kurt Russell plays Peter Quinn’s (Star Lord) father, and Pratt says it was great working with him on and off set! Pratt says about Russell, “Obviously he’s like this iconic dude, who I’ve known about him for decades before he ever knew I existed. Everyone on the team, everyone who’s been hanging out with him, they’re either just like, “He’s such a great dude.” He really is, man. You know, I’ve heard a few people say, “It really feels like you guys could be father and son.”
4. When it comes to working out and getting fit, he’s just like the rest of us
Pratt says that he was not actually able to keep the weight off from the first movie to this one, it’s a real process! “Well, if I’m gonna be fully authentic, I’m pretty careful about when I reveal myself to the public. So, I do it in a way to make you think that I’ve kept it off the entire time, but I haven’t.” Pratt says he needs to live his life and enjoy some good food every now and again, but he works hare when it’s crunch time! “So, don’t be hard on yourself if you lose weight and can’t keep it off. That’s just really natural.”
5. Even though he plays Star Lord, balancing his family life is more important
While Pratt is away filming, he knows that communication with his wife and kids is super important. “Everything has to be planned, but I think you don’t have to be present to be a presence. With technology now, Facetime, little tricks, little things like that, checking in every day, and nurturing your relationship with your spouse, and not making it just about the kids is important.”
