I won’t lie: I am into nature documentaries. Wild life, planet earth, and just the whole uninterrupted natural world as we know it is super fascinating to me. If you are the type who also enjoys the beauty and wonder of nature, you will love Disneynature’s BEARS, a new, enchanting movie that follows a family of grizzly bears through the snowy Alaskan mountains to document their journey. It’s coming out in theaters today, April 18th!
“In an epic story of breathtaking scale, Disneynature’s new True Life Adventure “Bears” showcases a year in the life of a bear family as two impressionable young cubs are taught life’s most important lessons. Set against a majestic Alaskan backdrop teeming with life, their journey begins as winter comes to an end and the bears emerge from hibernation to face the bitter cold. “Bears” captures the fast-moving action and suspense of life in one of the planet’s last great wildernesses—Alaska!”
When I was in Los Angeles, CA last month with Disney, they treated our group to an advanced screening of the film. I have not really seen any of the other Disneynature true-life movies, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. Let me just tell you that this story of a mother and her young was so engaging, it was awesome to get a look inside a grizzly bears life and habitat, and to see how an actual momma bear instinctively protects her young! The filming and photography was exceptional, there are able to shoot up close, very close, so that you can get a first-hand glimpse into their daily lives.
First time mom, Sky, is getting ready to raise her two young cubs, alone. Sky takes her babies on a long trek through the mountains to find food, but must do her best to avoid predators. It’s a rough world out there, so she’s got a big job ahead of her. Amber and Scout are her new cubs, and they are too adorable! The film starts off in the winter, these bear cubs were born in hibernation and this is their first time out to feed and explore the word. Here are a few shots from the movie that I really like, and I think you should look out for:
Grizzly bears fishing in a plentiful waterfall, full of salmon!
I love how they were able to get this close up shot of mom cradling her cub.
Watch out for predators! This hungry wolf is looking at Sky’s baby cubs for a quick meal!
One of mom’s babies decided to catch a ride.
During their journey through Alaska, mom and her cubs stop by a beach. They were digging though the sand in search of a snack.
It was pretty neat to see these bears so closely! If you enjoy documentary style films and would love a look at the life of a grizzly bear, you’ve got to check out Disneynature’s BEARS. I think it’s good for children, there are a few scenes where you can see graphic fish eating and such, but it’s very short. Some awesome things you should know: When you see the movie BEARS in theaters opening week, Disneynature will make a donation through the Disney Worldwide Conservation fund on your behalf to the National Park Foundation to protect wild life. Also, the Disney Store will contribute $1 to the NATIONAL PARK FOUNDATION for every BEARS plush purchased between now and 5/11/14. The movie is out today, just in time for Earth Day, go see it!
