Have you ever wondered where your routine coffee comes from? How it’s harvested? What work is put into crafting that very cup you enjoy every morning?
Millstone has put together an interactive page that shows you coffee’s Journey from Bean to Cup. Scroll through and observe… Note: You’ll probably want to go and brew a pot of coffee after this!
Coffee: The Journey from Bean to Cup
A mountainside of an Arabica estate serves as the harvesting grounds, the perfect mixture of climate, elevation and rain fall makes all the difference. In this area, a coffee tree grows and is carefully harvested.
Soon, the fruit of this tree starts to bud, coffee cherries. When they are fully formed they change colors and eventually become a bright red. These are handpicked, washed, pulled out of the middle of the fruit and laid out to dry.
Millstone uses a roasting science, which requires experience to know when the coffee beans are roasted at the perfect flavor. Watchful eyes and guidance ensure proper flavor and quality. During the roasting process, the beans swell and double in size. There is a short time window between light roasts and dark roasts, so master roasters must keep a close eye s they know when each bean is ready.
Next, they craft the coffee blends. Each bean has a different flavor profile, making each coffee taste unique. When it comes to flavored coffees, they typically use lightly roasted beans to make room for the flavor. It’s time to ground the coffee beans and brew them for tasting. They are able to taste specifically for acidity, body, aroma and flavor. Once the perfect roast is achieved, Millstone rushes their fresh coffee to retailers for us to enjoy.
There is lots of care put into the process of making coffee, making Millstone’s roasts absolutely delicious. Choose from Colombian Supremo, French Roast, Foglifter, Bed and Breakfast Blend, or from the flavored Vanilla Nut, Chocolate Velvet and Caramel Truffle. I received a Keurig Home Brewing System and the Millstone Foglifter K-cups, sure made my morning!
