I wrote this review while participating in a campaign for Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Twinkies. I received samples and a promotional item to thank me for participating.
Do you all remember the Twinkie scare a few years back where Hostess dared to discontinue the beloved confection? They must have realized that they were insane, because they have since brought it back and actually have The Twinkies Cookbook!
There are so many recipes using Hostess Twinkies out there, people are dipping them in chocolate, frying them, making trifles, cakes, tiramisu and all sorts of delicious desserts. What if your recipe could be featured in the Twinkies Cookbook? Wouldn’t that be awesome? For my submission, I decided that I had to get in on the Twinkie comeback parade, and since it’s summer, a cool, frozen treat would have to do. The creamy orange with the iconic golden cake of a Twinkie? Oh yea!
Frozen Orange Creamsicle Twinkie Pie
Ingredients:
- 4 Hostess Twinkies + 2 to eat
- 2 cups orange sherbet, thawed
- 1 cup vanilla Greek yogurt
- 1 pre-made graham cracker pie crust
- whipped cream
- orange zest
Thaw out the orange sherbet ice cream until soft and slightly melted around the edges, about 30 minutes.
In a bowl, stir the orange sherbet and Greek yogurt until thoroughly combined. Slice 4 Twinkies long ways, as shown above, and lay them flat into your graham cracker crust. You may have to cut off the edges of the Twinkies for them to fit without bunching up in the pie.
Pour your orange sherbet mixture over the Twinkies, covering the whole thing. Place the pie on a flat surface in the freezer for 3 hours or until completely frozen. Sprinkle your orange zest over the top of the frozen pie, slice and serve with whipped cream.
Man, this turned out delicious! It was very sweet, so my kids were all over it. We were already happy that Twinkies made a comeback, but this just takes the cake, pun intended! It’s always fun to get creative in the kitchen, I love trying new concoctions. Pick up some Twinkies and try this recipe, or create a recipe of your own. It was a lot of fun to make this pie, creamsicle is always super tasty, and it brought back memories of my childhood days.
