Do you ever wonder what exactly is in the food you eat? I mean, you can read a label, but do you really know what each ingredient is?
Here’s an easier, and somewhat cheaper way to get applesauce for your family without all of the additions: homemade! We have been juicing lately, so we tend to have a ton of fruit around. My daughtr loves to eat applesauce, so I experimented with some apples and strawberries. The end result: Pretty darn good! Tr making your own homemade applesauce at home…
Homemade Natural Strawberry Applesauce
- 6 medium apples, cored and sliced
- 1 cup strawberries
- 2 cups water
This, by far, is one of the easiest homemade food recipes on the planet. Bring the water to a boil, then add the fruit. Boil for about 15 minutes, or until soft.
Put the mixture into the blender, using only about 1 cup of the water. Make sure you use the water that was boiled, it should be red in color and have a little bit of flavor. Blend to the desired consistency. If it’s too thick, add more water.
Remove the large pieces of apple skin, place the applesauce into a mason jar, and refrigerate over night. Serve cold.
This is a lovely snack for kids, or even a great baby food. It does not have a super sweet flavor, like store bought applesauce, but it’s still tasty. The best part is knowing exactly what’s you are putting into your body! Since there are no artificial colors or preservatives, you may have to eat within a couple of days.
