I swear, it never ends. I feel like I am the busiest human being on the planet sometimes! My typical day:
6:30am: Wake up, get ready for work/school day
8:00am: Arrive at work, where I have been SUPER busy lately.
1:00pm: Lunch time. This is when I normally run household errands instead of eat. Blah.
5:00-5:30pm: Leave Work, pick up MJ from school and head home.
6:00pm: We made it home by now. I now have dinner to prepare, household duties, play time with the kids, bath time, and whatever else comes up.
9:00-10:00pm: Bedtime for the kiddos. More household, hubby and blog time for me.
11:00pm-12:00am: By this time, I am thoroughly exhausted and shutting down so I can take my butt to sleep. I will be doing it all again bright and early!
I am sure it is not just me, but each portion of my day involves a stressor. I’m tired. I feel over-worked. In most cases, I still have not finished what I hoped to. I was getting so tired of of being sick and tired!
Must. Destress. NOW.
I thought of a few things that I could do to relax myself and forget about the day-to-day, they actually worked! Here’s what I came up with:
- I unplugged for the ENTIRE weekend: I did not look at a computer, period. Sometimes, checking email, tweeting and using Facebook are tasks in themselves, not to mention posting on this site! Although my email inboxes are overflowing now, it was totally worth it!
- Took a Hot Bubble Bath: I have not done this in years and it was great. Instead of cleaning up and doing odds and ends around the house after the kids went to sleep, I ran a nice, hot bubble bath. Complete with lavender scented candles and a cup of hot tea, this was pure bliss. I used to do this when I was pregnant and it eased my aches and pains effortlessly. Take note, preggy mamas!
- Wine and Games With Friends: A few of our friends were visiting from out of town, so we corralled the gang and had an adult game night. These are the best. All of the kids occupy each other for hours, they do their thing and we do ours! Before you know it, bottles of wine are empty, food is consumed in droves, and the laughs don’t stop. Be sure to have Taboo on deck, this is the best when played after everyone has had a couple of glasses of wine 🙂
- I Ate Sweets: Yes, I am the snackiest person in the world, but there is something about some dark chocolate and freshly baked cookies or cupcakes that changes my entire mood. Whatever foods you love the most, take a few minutes to indulge. It works for me.
Believe it or not, these few simple yet hard things made me feel a heck of a lot better. A general de-stress tip: Do what you like. It’s that simple. I was definitely more relaxed this weekend than I have been lately. If you are feeling stressed ladies, do something you love for YOU. We definitely need our ‘ME’ time.
