Ok, so I took the kids to our local movie theater the other night for the screening of Disney Pixar’s Inside Out.
WE LOVED IT.
There are a few things you know to expect when you watch a Pixar movie: There will be witty adult humor, there will be a super creative story line, and YOU WILL CRY. Pixar has not given us a film since 2013, so it was long overdue. They really did an outstanding job on this one!
Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness. The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.
What I loved most about this movie is that it’s relatable. The fact that they took real life emotions that we’ve all experienced in our lives and personified them, Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger and Disgust, and really drove home the point that they all work together to make you, YOU! All of the memories that are collected throughout your life shape your individual personality, and I really think that Pixar represented this perfectly.
There were TWO times that I teared up – I mean, ahem – my allergies started acting up. I don’t know how the Pixar team reaches right into your chest and tugs your heart strings, through a projector screen, but they deliver every darn time!
