Just say no to brown apple slices! For sliced apples that won’t brown in the lunch box, this how-to tip from The Yummy Life is worth a shot.
The browning of apples happens almost instantly when they are cut open, so try the following to keep apples from turning brown when you slice them:
Immediately soak the slices in cold lemon water for 5 minutes, then store refrigerated in plastic ziploc bags. They are ready to go in the morning! If you are making apple pie or something that uses larger quantities, leave the apples in the lemon water until you are ready to use them (same day, not too long or they’ll probably taste like lemons!).
