If you live here, or are traveling to San Diego this summer, Bahia Carnaval it is! Set at the beautiful Bahia Hotel on Mission Bay, guests take part in a wonderful night time event, every Thursday night this summer. No need to travel to Brazil to experience the fun, enjoy a delicious Brazilian buffet and dance to some Samba music all while watching the sun set on Bahia’s private beach!

The Atmosphere

I went to the first show of the summer with my family on behalf of the Bahia Hotel. We were greeted with caipirinhas (the kids got lemonade) and immediately seated. The event is set up in the sand overlooking the bay, and as we listened to the live music, people got up to look around and mingle, and even take their shoes off!

The Brazilian Buffet

When the food was ready, we couldn’t wait to eat. The buffet features traditional Brazilian dishes, such as g roasted Churrasco style beef with chimichurri sauce, Feijoada (Pork & Black Bean Stew), Moqueca de Peixe (Brazilian Fish Stew) and Brazilian Beer Marinated Chicken.

There were delicious salad choices and a whole tray of miniature desserts, including cakes, Brazilian pastries, and Pudim de Laite (Brazilian Flan). Everything was delicious!

Live Entertainment!

Summer nights dancers at the Bahia Carnaval

When the sun goes down, the tiki torches are lit and the stage comes alive with a live performance, featuring traditional Brazilian costumes, music and dancing! What a treat, I love the upbeat rhythm of samba music. There were male and female dancers in traditional, and super colorful costumes. They did a few numbers and invited the kids onto the stage to dance along with them!

Oh, and if it’s your birthday… you’re getting on that stage and dancing your heart out! The adults were a little shy to come up at first, but they ended up having a great time. Alos, the male dancers gave quite the show, they did a fighting style performance and it was pretty cool!
