Do you find it difficult to get your kids to eat their fruits and vegetables? Is is tough to get them to understand why that delicious cookie or bag of chips is not the best choice? It is for me! I do try to incorporate fresh and healthy foods into every meal, sometimes it is such a task. Well, why not get them involved?
The Boys & Girls Clubs of America has teamed up with the consumer brand Amway to educate our youth and share the importance of a healthy diet and lifestyle. It is difficult to get kids to understand the importance of maintaining a balanced plate full of fruit and veggie goodness and making them want to eat them. It’s a good idea to involve them in the process of shopping, cooking and even gardening. Hopefully, this will lead to a positive nutrition outlook for the long-term, making nutritious choices for themselves and their own families in adulthood.
Here are a few initiatives from BGCA and Amway that can get children involved:
- POSITIVE SPROUTS® Sustainability Grants – Amway is providing $30,000 in Sustainability Grants to ten deserving Boys & Girls Clubs who previously received community gardens from Amway. The funds are designed to assist Clubs with the maintenance of their garden as well as improve nutrition for Club members.
- POSITIVE SPROUTS® Curriculum– Amway is enabling the delivery of a healthy food curriculum to 4,000 Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide ensuring that all Clubs have access to educational materials promoting healthy eating habits.
- Garden In A Box Kits– Amway is donating 150 Garden In A Box kits to Boys & Girls Clubs who demonstrated an interest and need for establishing a community gardening program at their Club. The kit includes a variety of fruit and vegetable seeds and supplies Clubs need to get started.
