The Staycation Plan: Fun, Sun and Sand in Newport Beach, CA

This post brought to you by Newport Beach. All opinions are 100% mine.

Welp, it’s that time again. Summer is fast approaching and my husband and I will be celebrating our 6th wedding anniversary in July! Time totally flies, didn’t I just walk down the aisle the other day?

We have been through so much, the ups, downs, our children, our life together. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. A celebration is in order. In an effort to keep things affordable and close to home, we’re thinking staycation. We’re in San Diego, so a short drive to Newport Beach might be just the ticket!

Newport Beach is a very laid back town with a beachy feel, yet sophisticated enough to offer fine dining, exquisite shopping and more. A friend of ours lives near Newport Beach so I know first hand just how gorgeous it is up there! With a variety of things to do, we can decide whether we want it to be just the two of us, or if we should make it a family affair.

The Plan:

Visit the Newport Beach site and check out the things to do. The website offers plenty of information about the city, hotel recommendations and booking, dining suggestions, and area attractions. I definitely want to hit the beach and take a kayaking adventure or an eco-tour. A couples massage at the Spa by the Sea sounds nice, along with a sunset sail on a chartered yacht. Pampered, much?

Drive to Newport Beach. It’s in the Orange County, CA area and about a 1 1/2 hour drive. Not too bad, eh?

Reserve a room at the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach Hotel. I think a few nights will do. This 26-acre resort style hotel is along the bayside and has the works: swimming, golf, tennis, spa services, a gym, coastal cuisine, and more amenities.

If we do decide to bring the kids, there are a few Kids Camps that look like a lot of fun. Also, we can take advantage of the Hyatt Family Plan, get 1 room for us and the second adjoining room is 50% off!

Kids Playing at the Beach

Have A Ball! We’ll drop the kids off at Camp James for a couple of days. They have a bunch of great interactive camp programs. MJ would love the Huck and Finn Tom Sawyer Adventure camp, they’ll be swimming, fort building, playing stickball and more!

The hubs and I will turn into beach bums. We’ll lay out, test the waters, eat by the bayside, and watch the sun go down after we’ve soaked up it’s rays all day. I’m thinking that a daily pina colada is in order! If we do decide to get up off of our lazy butts, we’ll try out some beach volleyball.

What do you think? Good staycation idea? Do you need a vacation? Would you do something similar? Tell me what your favorite activity would be if you went to Newport Beach! I’m all ears 🙂

  • We had a fantastic hodliay at Beachside during early September. The house was equipped with everything we needed a real home from home and was spotlessly clean. The location was perfect, being right on the beach but also a short walk to shops, cafes and a pub. The footbridge across the River Adur to Shoreham town is currently being replaced, but there is a regular shuttle bus in service. Thanks, Rae we can’t wait to go back! lablos
