When planning your trip to the Cook Islands, it’s important to research all of your options to make the best hotel choice. I definitely spent a lot of time looking for the best hotels in Rarotonga, and it looks like my research payed off! The Sunset Resort was the place we ended up choosing, it was really everything we wanted in a resort!

The Sunset Resort is a beautiful, modern accommodation that embodies the look and feel of an island paradise. This lush, boutique resort features gorgeous ocean front rooms, garden and pool view rooms, stunning views of the sunset each evening, two luxurious swimming pools, an open air restaurant and sits in a great location near the airport in Avarua, on the west side of the island. It’s true, here you can kick back, relax and take in all of what paradise has to offer!

We stayed in an ocean front studio, the room was very nice with updated amenities, tropical decor and a full kitchen. There are also one and two bedrooms for larger groups. Self accommodating rooms are always a good idea in Rarotonga, you can cook your own meals when you need to and have lots of the comforts of home while you’re away. The best thing about this room is that you can walk out onto your patio and take just a few steps to the beach!

Here are some of my favorite photos from my stay at The Sunset Resort, this is the lobby where you check in.

Here’s a look inside an ocean front suite. I thought it was a great amount of space for two, I would recommend the one or two bedroom suites for more people. The property accommodates families with older children, 12 and up.

I loved the clean, modern look of the kitchen. Stainless steel counter tops and appliances, and a simple arrangement of flowers. Just the way I like it!

This is the second, smaller pool at the resort. With a full bar offerings and happy hour specials every evening, I think it’s great for adults!

The Anchorage Restaurant is spacious, open air and right on site, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week. Guests of the hotel will receive a complimentary breakfast each day, it includes coffee, cereal, yogurt, fruit, toast, and more. This was great for us, we had stuff to do each morning and grabbing a quick bite to eat was very necessary!

Palm trees with hammocks tied to their trunks. These were the perfect pieces to create paradise, i’m pretty sure I fell asleep in one of these hammocks daily. It’s almost impossible not to, once you sit in one, the ocean sounds and serenity lull you and take you away!

End your day on the beach, and watch the sun set slowly, beautifully. This was one of my favorite parts of the day.

Stay at The Sunset Resort, a Rarotonga paradise!

We loved everything about this resort, it was small enough to deter huge crowds, but large enough to have all of the luxury amenities that we desire. The staff is amazing, the rooms were very clean, and we had a great stay! Relax, stay and play at The Sunset, they have plenty of things to do, and can help with booking tours, in room massages, give scuba lessons, coordinate airport transportation and will let guests borrow snorkels and reef gear to hit the ocean! Thanks for hosting us, Sunset!

  • I love traveling but haven’t had much opportunity recently. This looks exactly like what I would want in a hotel. Beautiful suite and beautiful views.
