Every year, I look forward to the amazing movies created by Walt Disney Studios and their counterparts Walt Disney Animation, Pixar, Marvel Dreamworks and Lucasfilm. They’ve recently released their slate of films for 2016 and I am beyond excited about them!

So, you mean to tell me that we’re getting Captain America, Dory, Moana, Doctor Strange and a Lucas Film Star Wars installment, all in 2016?! Mind BLOWN.

The Finest Hours – January 29, 2016 (Walt Disney Studios)


On Feb. 18, 1952, a massive storm splits the SS Pendleton in two, trapping more than 30 sailors inside the tanker’s sinking stern. Engineer Ray Sybert bravely takes charge to organize a strategy for his fellow survivors. As word of the disaster reaches the Coast Guard in Chatham, Mass., Chief Warrant Officer Daniel Cluff orders a daring rescue mission. Alice Through the Looking Glass – May 27, 2015 (Walt Disney Studios)


Alice Kingsleigh has spent the past few years following in her father’s footsteps and sailing the high seas. Upon her return to London, she comes across a magical looking glass and returns to the fantastical realm of Underland (mistakenly heard as ‘Wonderland’ by seven year-old Alice during her first visit) and her friends the White Rabbit, Absolem (the Caterpillar), the Cheshire Cat and the Mad Hatter, who is not himself. The Hatter has lost his Muchness, so Queen Mirana (the White Queen) sends Alice on a quest to borrow the Chronosphere, a metallic globe inside the chamber of the Grand Clock that powers all time. Returning to the past, she comes across friends – and enemies – at different points in their lives, and embarks on a perilous race to save the Hatter before time runs out.

Taking place six months after Finding Nemo, Dory suddenly recalls her childhood memories. Remembering something about “the jewel of Monterey, California”, accompanied by Nemo and Marlin, she sets out to find her family. She arrives at the Monterey Marine Life Institute, where she meets Bailey, a white beluga whale; Destiny, a whale shark; and Hank the octopus, who becomes her guide.

Tells the story of Sophie, the Queen of England and the BFG who set out on an adventure to capture the evil, man-eating giants who have been invading the human world.


Pete’s Dragon – August 12, 2016 (Walt Disney Studios)



Pete’s Dragon is an upcoming American live-action-animated fantasy comedy-drama film directed by David Lowery and written by Toby Halbrooks and Lowery, based on a short story by S.S. Field and Seton I. Miller and also a remake of 1977 film Pete’s Dragon. The film stars Oakes Fegley, Oona Laurence, Robert Redford, Bryce Dallas Howard, Wes Bentley and Karl Urban. Filming began on January 26, 2015 in New Zealand. The film is set for an August 12, 2016 release. (Wikipedia)


Queen of Katwe – Fall 2016 (Walt Disney Studios)

The Queen of Katwe is an upcoming biographical drama film directed by Mira Nair from a screenplay by William Wheeler.[3] The film is about the life of Phiona Mutesi, an Ugandan chess prodigy who becomes a Woman Candidate Master after her performances at World Chess Olympiads.[4] The film will be produced by Walt Disney Pictures and ESPN Films, and will be released at an unspecified date in 2016


Doctor Strange – November 4, 2016 (Marvel)


After his career is destroyed, a brilliant but arrogant surgeon gets a new lease on life when a sorcerer takes him under his wing and trains him to defend the world against evil.


Moana – November 23, 2016 (Walt Disney Animation Studios)
