How to make a storm in a jar - a fun science experiment!

Did you know that you can simulate a snow storm in a jar?

Green Curved Line

Gather your snow storm project materials

Fill your mason jar with baby oil and water

Add paint, glitter, and food coloring

Drop in the Alka-Seltzer tablet...

... and you get a snowstorm!

Here's the science behind the storm in a jar

Why did that happen?

Because oil is less dense than water, the water sinks to the bottom of the jar.

The Alka-Seltzer's reaction with the water creates an upward pressure...

... while the oil pushes it back down!
