When you’re entertaining at home or bringing an appetizer platter to an event, you want to be sure that most guests are able to enjoy the food. One of my favorite ways to serve a large crowd is to make a hummus appetizer platter. Packed with many different flavors, meats, cheeses, and healthy veggies, this is the perfect finger food party appetizer. Not just any ingredients will do, it is important to consider all diets and preferences of your guests. Here are some tips on how to make a crowd-pleasing appetizer platter that everyone will love.

5 Tips To Make A Hummus Appetizer Platter

1. Display your appetizer platter on something unique

Forget about the standard plastic compartment trays this year. You can display your party finger food tray on a piece of wood, a shallow stainless steel bowl, a colorful cutting board, or even a slab of concrete. I have a black serving concrete tray that I love to use for many foods, it looks great with this appetizer spread on it.

2. Use a variety of ingredients

Everyone doesn’t eat pork, some people are on a gluten-free diet, and others can be vegetarian or vegan. When you have a variety of meats, cheeses, vegetables, fruits, and other snack foods, it gives people many options that work for them. I personally love seeing almonds, figs, honey, brie, pistachios, dark chocolate pieces, and other amazing foods, this time, they didn’t happen to fit within the theme of my tray. This happens to bring me to my next tip…

3. Choose finger food sized items that pair well

Large food items do not work well for appetizer platters, so stick to small bites that people can grab easily. Having toothpicks, tongs, napkins, or other ways to pick up food items is a good idea so that people are not sticking their bare hands into all of the appetizers.

As mentioned above, use a variety of ingredients and make sure the flavors go well together. I chose the Boar’s Head Hummus Roasted Red Pepper variety because it adds a burst of flavor to simple vegetables, meats, cheese, and crackers. I love honey and brie, but the flavor wouldn’t go well with what I created. Could you imagine if I had used another dip flavor, like lemon or chocolate? My platter would definitely not be good!

4. Change up your dip

Even though ranch and buffalo sauce are the usual suspects on an appetizer dish, it’s a good idea to change up your dip! Boar’s Head Hummus is a flavorful, gluten-free recipe made with quality ingredients. The roasted red pepper variety is a smooth, creamy spread, non-GMO, Kosher, and has a delicious and sweet red pepper flavor center, perfect for dipping crackers, veggies, meats, cheese, and whatever your heart desires! It comes in a nice, round container, so it’s easy to pop into the center of your hummus and veggie platter, no mess, and no fuss.

5. Balance your board and create a colorful design

Aesthetic matters just as much as taste, so make sure you are using different colored foods and garnishes to make your hummus board stand out! I love the bright orange color of the carrots and cheese, while the broccoli’s green color is bold and garnishes the appetizer board. The pinkish color on the salami and turkey rolls go well with the roasted red pepper flavor center in the hummus!
