Take A Day Trip to Bainbridge Island – Right Across the Bay from Seattle

I love visiting Seattle, Washington in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. We took a day trip to Bainbridge Island on a hosted trip with Volkswagen, it’s right across Elliott Bay and there is so much to do and see there!

Visit Bainbridge Island in Seattle, WA

If you’ve never been to the Seattle area in the fall, it is such a beautiful place to see! The weather is perfect, which makes it wonderful to take a day trip to Bainbridge Island. Just about a 30-minute ferry ride from Seattle’s waterfront across Elliott Bay, Bainbridge Island has so many great beaches, restaurants, museums, trails, parks, water sports, art galleries, wineries, kids activities, and so much more!

When we got to the island, a slew of 2017 Volkswagen Golf AllTrack vehicles were awaiting our arrival. The folks over at VW thought that a day trip to Bainbridge Island, with its windy roads and scenic views, would be the ideal place to test out the handles and versatility that this new Golf model has: All wheel drive, 170 horsepower turbocharged engine, driver assistance, a lower roof rack, lots of cargo space, and top of the line safety features for peace of mind. Time to take a break from the city and put this baby to the test!

A Seattle Day Out – Take A Day Trip to Bainbridge Island

Drive through Bainbridge Island and take in the scenery

Since you can board the ferry on foot or in your car, you have the option of taking a lovely scenic drive. We chose to park our VW Golf AllTrack vehicle and take in the view when we saw this beautiful mountain range in the distance.

There was so much greenery surrounding the winding roads that it looked like we were in a rain forest. You can see that the leaves are slowly changing colors, such spectacular beauty!

Stop at one of Bainbridge Island’s local beaches

Your day trip to Bainbridge Island isn’t complete without a visit to one of their beaches! We stopped at Scenic Beach State Park, this is a beach area with tons of wildlife, which doubles as a campground. The view of the Olympic Mountains and Hood Canal is simply gorgeous! Kids were splashing around in the shallow waters and skipping rocks, I suggest packing up a lunch and enjoying nature at this beautiful, quiet place.

Try a new water sport or activity

There’s a ton of water in the Puget Sound area, so it’s no surprise that there are lots of water activities to choose from! If you’ve never tried kayaking, fishing, snorkeling, sailing, canoeing, and even scuba diving, you can on Bainbridge Island. We had the chance to try a little kayaking, thanks to the VW Golf AllTrack’s ability to transport on a large load on its roof rack!

Visit a historical museum or art gallery

There are lots of good museums and art galleries on the island, there’s a Bainbridge Island Historical Museum and a Kids Discovery Museum that I wanted to visit. Also, consider checking out the Suquamish Museum and Cultural Center, the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, and the Island Gallery, so much culture on this island!

We had such a great day trip to Bainbridge Island, and driving the new 2017 Volkswagen Golf AllTrack was the icing on the cake! This car is sleek, stylish, durable, comfy, and handles very well in all sorts of weather. In my opinion, the most impressive thing about Volkswagen vehicles is that they continuously focus on safety – they’ve worked hard to maintain a 5-star safety rating on this vehicle and feel it is one of the most important aspects of their cars.

When you take the return ferry back to Seattle, make sure you pay attention to the view of Mt. Rainier off to your right, and the beautiful Seattle city skyline straight ahead. Such magnificent sights!
