In the latest Star Wars installment, Rogue One Ben Mendelsohn turns to the dark side as he plays the evil, villianous Imperial Director Orson Krennic.
We all know Darth Vader as the ultimate villain in the Star Wars franchise, but there are so many other evil counterparts in the Empire! In the new movie Rogue One Ben Mendelsohn is the guy you don’t want to mess with, he turns to the dark side with his character Krennic!
Rogue One Ben Mendelsohn Turns To The Dark Side As Director Orson Krennic
Mendelsohn plays the main villain in the movie, Director Orson Krennic, who serves the Emperor and works on the side of the Empire. Mendelsohn describes Krennic as “the director of military intelligence and operations for the Empire. For the purposes of our film it means he’s the dude that built the Death Star and is bringing it to its final brilliance”. I saw the movie a few days ago and let me tell you – this guy is dark, evil, and ruthless – he’ll stop at nothing to make sure that the Death Star’s plans are carried out!
Mendelsohn talked with us a bit about the film, and he told us about how he prepared for his role. “When I was going into this, the main thing that I looked at was just the officers in the original film. You sort of have to do a bit of a rewind and think about what it was like when they were making it in ‘77 because they were all very British. I wanted Krennic to sound like enough of one of those guys.”
After that, getting into character on set was easy. The majority of his scenes were dark, he was shadowed by death troopers everywhere he went. So you’d better believe that with his costume and death troopers in tow, he was in evil mode! “I mean you put that costume on and you’ve got those boots on and you have that cape. And all of a sudden you just feel that power.”
Mendelsohn appears in the opening scene of the movie as Director Orson Krennic, and you will hate him to death. I mean HATE. He arrives with multiple death troopers ready to kill, what a way to introduce himself! Mendelsohn says that this is one of his favorite scenes he filmed with Mads Mikkelsen (Galen Erso), although it proved to be a “brutally difficult day. We were in Iceland, and it was absolutely prohibitively freezing.”
You can’t miss Rogue One Ben Mendelsohn and his villainous ways, he’s truly the bad guy you can’t wait to see fall! Mendelsohn really played the part well, I had a hard time separating him from his character when I first saw him in person!
