We had the most amazing time at Disney’s Queen of Katwe U.S. movie premiere, I still can’t believe we went! The El Capitan Theater red carpet was spectacularly lit up, awaiting celebrity arrivals for one of the most unique films released by Disney to date. This movie is definitely one not to miss, in theaters September 30th!
Attending a movie premiere is truly a one of a kind experience. I was in Los Angeles, CA with Disney for the release of Disney’s Queen of Katwe, a beautiful, true story about a young girl from the slums of Katwe in Kampala, Uganda with dreams of being an International chess champion. There were so many awesome people who attended and supported this premiere, I was really honored to be present.

There’s something so neat about getting all fancily dressed up and gracing the red carpet, it’s almost like a dream! I didn’t get too many great photos of myself on the red carpet, I was more focused on the cast and directors of the film. Here’s a shot of me on the red carpet just before heading inside to watch the movie…

Ok, so David Oyelowo and Lupita Nyong’o on the red carpet – absolutely STUNNING! Oyelowo plays Robert Katende, a youth mentor and the man responsible for leading Phiona to the game of chess. Nyong’o plays Phiona’s mother, a strong willed woman who will stop at nothing to make sure her children are fed and safe and she is fierce. Do not try Phiona’s mama!

This is a great shot of the cast of the film. From left to right, Robert Katende, Phiona Mutesi, Director Mira Nair, Madina Nalwanga, Lupita Nyong’o, David Oyelowo, and Martin Kabanza. We got the chance to meet them all, they are all so warm and friendly, stay tuned for interview coverage in the coming weeks!

These two budding actors are new to the Hollywood scene, they were cast for this movie right in Katwe in Kamplala, Uganda and they are so good! Madina Nalwanga plays Phiona (left) and Martin Kabanza plays her brother Brian, you should have seen these two and their dance moves at the after party!

After the premiere, everyone was invited to the after party at the Hard Rock Cafe. All of the films’ cast came by and cut a rug, the place was jumping! Good food, good fun and plenty of awesome people made this an unforgettable evening.
