During the ANT-MAN family series, we’ll be sharing some awesome interviews, set visits, behind the scenes, and information about the movie each day. Find out if you should take your family to go see it, in theaters July 17th!

ANT-MAN Family Series, Part 3: Judy Greer talks playing Lang’s ex-wife

Continuing our family series of Marvel’s ANT-MAN movie, we got to speak with actor Judy Greer. Her character Maggie, Scott Lang’s (ANT-MAN) ex-wife and the mother of his child, tends to struggle with the fact that Lang wants a second chance at being a great father to his daughter. Marvel is really putting in effort to add the family element to their films, and I LOVE IT! Greer says she doesn’t have any super hero parts, but as a mother, she’s a super hero to me!

Here’s what we learned about ANT-MAN in an interview with Judy Greer…

Greer’s involvement with the project – She says that she auditioned the old fashion way to get the role as ‘Maggie’, Lang’s ex-wife. Afterwards, she got the part in 24 hours, which is rare for a film like this. When she auditioned, Greer says, “I wasn’t allowed to read the script ahead of time. But I knew the movie and like Paul.” Also, she said “I was really excited to work with Peyton [director] because he’s I think really funny. And I think what some of these super hero movies lack is like a genuine sense of comedy in them.”

Scott Lang and Maggie’s relationship in the movie – Although divorced, they have a decent, friendly relationship and Maggie really wants Scott to be involved in their daughter’s life. “Scott Lang’s character is extremely intelligent and able to do kind of like cyber law breaking.” When she got pregnant, she asked Lang to stop, but he didn’t. He ended up getting arrested, went to jail, and they got divorced in the process. Now that he’s back in society, Maggie is afraid that Scott’s criminal activities will bring their daughter in harms way. Nothing like a mother’s love!

Greer sees similarities between herself and her character – When it comes to acting, Greer says that it’s easier to play a version of herself, so she tries to be this cool, compassionate and strong person that’s sort of a positive influence on her ex-husband. She remembers “a really cool scene where I confront Scott about having to shape up in order to see his daughter Cassie.” She knows that Lang is not a bad person per se, but just that he’d gotten into some trouble. She wanted to portray her character as the stronger, helpful type.

Judy Greer has enjoyed making her first Marvel film, she had fun and says that “everyone is so nice and cool.” We actually heard them joking around a bit in between takes, lots of laughter and poking fun at each other makes for a fun work day! Greer says that even after super long filming days, every one is so beat but the team stays after and hangs out. Catch Judy Greer as ‘Maggie’ in ANT-MAN, coming soon to theaters!
