Visiting Pittsburgh, PA

Last year, I got the chance to visit the city of Pittsburgh for the holidays with the Visit PGH press team and it was awesome! As a California girl, I don’t get to head out East too often. I had been in Pittsburgh for the first time and I got to explore the city and many of its attractions, and I really enjoyed the time we spent on the Duquesne Incline!

If you are visiting the area and looking for fun Pittsburgh attractions, Pittsburgh’s Duquesne Incline will take you up high and show you quite the spectacular aerial view of the city.

Pittsburgh’s Duquesne Incline Is A Must See Attractions In Pittsburgh For Kids!

The Duquesne Incline dates back into the 1800s, and has since been maintained and updated to what it is today. Using the original wooden cable cars, visitors can ride the incline up slowly from the base of Mount Washington up to the upper station on Grandview Avenue. If you’re looking for things to d in Pittsburgh with kids, they will love this ride! Board at the lower station at 1197 West Carson Street.

Ride the Duquesne Incline to the top

This is about 800 feet of track, and they take you up to an elevation of 400 feet! The cars move slow, so you’ll get to take in the view of the city as you go up. It was pretty overcast when I visited, so many of my Duquesne Incline pictures are cloudy and gray. Can you see the football stadium below?

Once you get to the top, the doors open and you exit onto a platform inside the building at the upper station. There are tons of historical maps, photos, and other information about the incline, it’s like a mini-museum. When you’re ready, walk outside to the observation deck and you will see the most beautiful sight – an astonishing view of the city of Pittsburgh!

Spectacular views of Pittsburgh!

Looking at the city of Pittsburgh from the observatory deck is such a spectacular treat! You can see some of the many bridges in the city, 3 different rivers, the Downtown area buildings, the stadiums, and so much more. This is such a fun activity for families of all ages, the kids loved riding up the hill and seeing how far up they’d gone!

Of all of the fun things to do in Pittsburgh PA, I would have to say that Pittsburgh’s Duquesne Incline is a neat and relaxing way to take a ride on a historic wooden car and see the city! Sit back and enjoy the ride up to the Duquesne Incline observation deck where you’ll enjoy cityscape views you’ll never forget – one of the top must-see things in Pittsburgh! Thanks to Visit PGH for having me and showing off their lovely city, I had a wonderful time!
