When my daughter was born, we happily took her home from the hospital in a Chicco KeyFit 30 Car Seat and travel system. We loved everything about it. Now that she’s a bouncing bubbly 2 year old, sporting long legs and stretching across our back seat, she needs a larger seat that will grow along with her!
Chicco is preparing parents for the next level in car seats with the Chicco NextFit™ Convertible Car Seat. I had tried a few different seats with MJ when he was younger, and while they worked for the time being, he ended up outgrowing them faster than the recommended seat size for his age/weight. I do not want to repeat the same with Girly Girl, so I love that I have come across a seat that will last through her preschool years. The NextFit seat supports a rear facing and forward facing ride for kids ranging from 5 lbs to 65 lbs. Features include an advanced LATCH system, FlowThough Belt Path, 9 recline positions, 6 head rest positions, and the RideRight™ Safety Bubble.
I got a chance to review the Chicco NextFit Convertible Car Seat, honestly, I love it. I have fought with plenty of car seats in my years as a mom. This one has plenty of safety features to be sure the seat is installed correctly, every time. This convertible car seat is truly a cut above, here’s why…
5 Reasons I LOVE The Chicco NextFit Convertible Car Seat
1. It fits your child now, and grows with them along the way – This seat supports a weight range of 5 – 65 lbs, so you’ll get quite a bit of use out of it! As your child grows, the seat conveniently adjusts with. The back head rest panel slides up with ease, taking the harness straps with it. No need to do any more adjusting!
2. The installation instructions and points are accurate and secure – There is no guess work about installation process on this model. Everything on the Chicco NextFit seat is clearly marked on the car seat to insure proper installation. The RideRight™ safety bubble feature is present on both sides and indicates whether or not the seat is in the proper position for rear and forward-facing riders. No more hoping it’s correct, it feels good to be SURE!
3. Reclines at 9 different positions – This is a great feature because you can customize the recline level based upon the age and size of your child. Reclining the seat at level 1 is the best for rear-facing newborns, while level 9 is the most upright position for older kids that sit forward-facing. The recline release is at the front end of the seat, marked “9 reclines” in orange. Pull up on it and the seat slides to the desired position.
4. Great LATCH and Car Seat Belt System – The LATCH system on this seat is awesome! It’s got LATCH connectors coming out of both sides of the seat, clearly marked “1st” and “2nd” so you know which to use and when. They loosen for easy connection to the car, when they are secure, tighten the SuperClinch™ LATCH on the 2nd side for secure and tight fit. Sliding the LATCH belts through the guide helps to achieve the perfect set up and fit, every time. When not in use, there is a LATCH storage compartment on each side of the seat.
Using the vehicles seat belt: From the Chicco NextFit vehicle belt installation video…
The seat belt system is a little different than what you may be used to. I couldn’t figure it out at first, I guess it was too simple! Instead of sliding your hands through the back of the seats openings, you can pull the belt through the front. This is pretty cool, I have struggled with trying to fasten seat belts behind other seats in the past.
5. Comfort and convenience for the child – In addition to the 9 recline positions mentioned above, the padding of the seat is pretty plush. There is a removable infant insert that cuddles them so, and the straps on the 5-point harness have cushion on them, too. Also, the chest clip on the harness has 2 different positions to better fit smaller vs larger children.
Chicco’s NextFit™ Convertible car seat is a great choice for the next level of transportation seating for your child. With the ability to safely fit infants at 5 lbs, you could even skip the carrier all together. Visit Chicco.com for more information on the NextFit line of convertible car seats, there are a few different colors to choose from and they are sold at Amazon, Babies R Us, Buy Buy Baby and other retailers nationwide.

This is just a great car seat. Love it!
I too love almost everything about the seat. I cannot tighten the straps when my little guy is in the seat. So unfortunately I have to have them tightened and then try to get his arms in them. Imagine that with a 14 month old boy! He HATES getting into the seat. He screams the entire time! I wish I could tighten the straps with him in it. I think he wouldn’t mind (sometimes) if I wasn’t dislocating his arms every time! Thoughts?
How did it fit in your car compared to the Keyfit 30? My passenger seat is pushed far forward already with the Keyfit.
It fits about the same at full recline when rear facing, but there is much more room when you start forward facing. I love the seat, it’s been great!
