I recently moved into a new place, and it’s still I have so many plans to decorate but life has been getting in the way! We’re juggling work, summer camps, baseball and extra summer activities, and not to mention the cost of decorating a home can be expensive, so getting around to decorating has been on the back burner. As a renter, it’s hard for me to be able to do what I want with my place, and I would love to do some of these kitchen upgrades that add value to your home. I wanted to make my new place feel like home, and making this DIY kitchen utensil holder was a great way for me to add my personal touch!

DIY Custom Kitchen Utensil Holder: Give Your Kitchen A Pop of Color!

I decided that we’d use turquoise in the kitchen to match the grayish countertops, but where can you really find everything that coordinates perfectly? I got this Shape Tape™ from Frog Tape® that has this great wave pattern, looks like it’s time to make my own DIY kitchen decor!

You Will Need:

  • an affordable glass or ceramic container that fits your utensils (this is a good one)
  • FrogTape’s Shape Tape
  • turquoise colored spray paint
  • newspaper

First, prep your container by cleaning the outside and allowing it do dry thoroughly. I got mine from Ikea, it’s a glass, no-frills piece that fits my utensils perfectly. Lay out your newspaper somewhere outdoors, away from walls, furniture, and other things.

Measure and apply FrogTape® Shape Tape™ onto the desired location on the container. I used 3 strips on my jar, which is about 8 inches tall. Pull off half of the back liner and press the sticky side firmly onto the container. Remove the other half of the backing and smooth the edges onto the surface.

Once the tape is in place, remove the lid, if you have one, and stuff newspaper inside your container to protect the interior. Now you’re ready to paint! Slowly and evenly spray the entire exterior surface of the container. When finished, remove the strips of FrogTape® Shape Tape™ immediately and allow the utensil holder to dry overnight.

This DIY custom kitchen utensil holder took my space from drab to FAB!

I just love how it turned out! I am glad to be able to have kitchen utensil storage that looks cute and fits in with my kitchen. I can creatively paint so many different things with this, centerpieces, accent walls, vases, wall art, and so much more. Shape Tape™ is great for these types of projects, it is treated with Paintblock® technology which reacts with paint to form a gel that seals the edges of the tape, preventing the paint from bleeding. You’ll get clean lines every time!
