I loved hearing from Marvel Studios Victoria Alonso about her role in the making of Avengers: Infinity War! She is an amazing woman with an executive role at Marvel Studios. Read on to see how she handles her career and empowers women in the process.
When I was in Los Angeles for the Avengers: Infinity War movie premiere, my group got the chance to sit down and chat with Marvel Studios’ EVP of Physical Production & Avengers: Infinity War Executive Producer, Victoria Alonso! This woman is AWESOME. She told us all about her role in producing the film (she is literally working hands on in the process of making each movie from start to finish) as well as some of the other things she does with Marvel. Alonso is the mother of a little 8 year old girl, and she seems to have perfected balancing her time with her family and her career pretty well.
Argentinian born Alonso has been around the block, Infinity War is not her first rodeo with Marvel and it won’t be her last. She is one of the 3 founding members of the Marvel Studios films and has worked on 18 of them! For now, there are 23 total in the works, which means that there are at the least 5 more that we can look forward to. Victoria has lots to say and is very soft spoken, yet her words are powerful. I am telling you, she had some of us in tears just listening to her speak about her life, her daughter, and her career. She is such an inspiring voice and a wonderful example to all women and girls that we can really achieve anything we set out to!
Wise Words and Quotes From Marvel Studios Victoria Alonso
Victoria is a major source of inspiration for her daughter. Alonso has participated in career day and other events at her daughters’ school and all of her classmates think she’s the coolest kid on the playground for being the producer of all of these amazing films! “I go to their school and I do sort of like a career day. I’ve done the career day and then the teachers this year invited me to do a change-maker thing, which was a big deal. It was a big deal to me begin with. Then she [Alonso’s daughter] repeated for about — I don’t know – five weeks out loud, ‘my mommy’s a change-maker. My mommy’s a change-maker’.” Alonso says that she thought that it was a beautiful thing, and she seems so proud to be able to influence her daughter in such a positive way.
Marvel Studios Victoria Alonso was asked what was the most challenging thing in her career so far. She says, “I don’t know about challenges. I don’t see them as challenges. I just see it as a day-to- day hurdle, and I guess that’s a challenge, if you would. But to me a challenge is like something you can’t achieve where a hurdle is something you just need to jump over and go. So, I like to change a little bit of the dynamic of how we teach ourselves of something that you wanna get pass it that is a hurdle and not a challenge. A challenge just seems like something you can’t get to.” Wow. I have never really looked at it that way! Change the dynamic and get it done!
I love that Victoria knows that her daughter is able to look up to her and see someone like herself, a woman, with a major title for a major studio. She borrowed the tag line from the Gina Davis Foundation, ‘if you can see it, you can be it.’ “So, for her seeing me or her other mother or any other woman out there doing it is what inspires her to be. The idea of getting out there and showing that you can is I think by far the most important thing.”
When it comes to girls and empowerment, Marvel Studios Victoria Alonso shared that she thought that we as a society need to do better. When asked why, here’s where the tears began. “I think that women need to believe in their core that they’re equal. Because I see it in my daughter at seven, and, boy, she’s gonna take it over. And there’s a shift somewhere along the way, I think when they turn between 12 and 15. Something shifts, and I think it’s within us. You gotta believe it in your heart. You do. In your own right, you’re doing something for these children. Just show them. Show them that the world is better a world kinda together, but we’re different. And the one thing that unites us really is the love.” This really resonated with us as moms, we know our job as parents is extremely hard and takes a lot out of us, but this is a great reminder of why we do it!
One last amazing quote from Victoria’s mother… “If it has been done, it can. And if it hasn’t been done, it should.” I love this, because it’s so true! Alonso says that we can instill in our children the fact that we, as women, can do anything we desire and we should expose our kids to everything – “stories that you in your true, true self believe that will inspire you, and it will go in and it will inspire them. Show them all kinds of art. Show them all kinds of music. Show them the differences of this world.”
