Have you ever had a dream about what heaven might be like? A gorgeous place, with amazing scenery, sunshine, clear blue skies, a beautiful lake, and greenery everywhere? A place that is full of wonderful and creative people, music, movies and activities galore? Well, I am pretty sure I’ve gotten close, I discovered SKYWALKER RANCH.
When I was in San Francisco with Disney, we took a trip to SKYWALKER RANCH, the headquarters of Lucasfilm and Skywalker Sound, to preview the movie Strange Magic. We got to watch the film in a theater on the property, and interview the director, actor Elijah Kelley, and George Lucas himself! Skywalker Ranch is located in the Marin County, about 40 minutes outside of San Francisco. When we rounded the mountains and saw the lush greenery on the hillside in the valley, my initial thought was, “Where are we going? THIS is where Lucasfilm has their headquarters?”
When I tell you that this place is beautiful, it’s really an understatement.
After previewing the movie, we got to take a walking tour of the ranch. The property consists of over 4,000 acres of land, all owned by Lucasfilm, and features the iconic main house, a Technical Building, a screening theater, a Fitness Building, a general store, a guest complex with suites for clients, and even private Lake Ewok! I just can’t believe that this is where all of the magic happens. What an amazing and creative work space. Check out some of my photos from my visit to the property…
The Grounds at Skywalker Ranch
Y’all, everything is just so gorgeous! Skywalker Sound occupies the 153,000-square-foot Technical Building, which features a world-class scoring stage, six mix studios, ADR and Foley stages, 34 editing suites, and a 300-seat screening room.
There is a vineyard right outside of the Technical Building, and the vines are bare. I wonder what time of year that they are in bloom…
You can ride bikes to get around Skywalker Ranch, these were in front of the fitness center. The Fitness Center offers state-of-the-art exercise equipment, a pristine 75′ x 25′ heated swimming pool, racquetball/volleyball, handball court, half-court basketball and aerobics room.
The General Store. is located in the Fitness Building.
The lovely Lake Ewok. Isn’t this just the most picturesque scenery? It almost looks fake!
The Main House at Skywalker Ranch
The Main House has about 50,000 square feet of living space and is where George Lucas stays with his family when he’s at the ranch. We were not allowed to take photos inside of the house, but I did my best to show what it looks like.
In the backyard, there is a gorgeous fountain…
The only interior photo of the main house, provided by Lucasfilm, it this shot of the library. This library is stunning. STUN. NING. There had to be thousands and thousands of books.
The Stag Theater
This theater, located in the Technical Building, is where we got to watch Strange Magic. George Lucas, creator of the film, and Elijah Kelley, voice of “Sunny”, watched the movie at the same time, in the same theater as us! The 300-seat screening room is where the screenwriters, animators and filmmakers listen to, pre-watch and perfect their work. I can’t believe that I sat and watched a movie here!
Strange Magic is in theaters January 23rd!
The movie is seriously cute, such a great animated love story using songs we all know and love! They did a great job, I will be sharing my full film review next week. It’s not yet rated, but i would probably go with PG (opinion). I guess we’ll see! Watch the trailer below, and mark your calendars to head to the movies on Friday, January 23, 2015!
STRANGE MAGIC is a madcap fairy tale musical inspired by “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Popular songs from the past six decades help tell the tale of a colorful cast of goblins, elves, fairies and imps, and their hilarious misadventures sparked by the battle over a powerful potion. Lucasfilm Animation Singapore and Industrial Light & Magic, which created the CGI animation for 2011’s Academy Award®-winning film “Rango,” bring to life the fanciful forest turned upside down with world-class animation and visual effects.
