Brussels Sprouts with Bacon and Cranberries Recipe
Set your Holiday dinner menu off right! If you love Thanksgiving side dishes with bacon, this Brussels sprouts recipe is a good one to try.
Ingredients for this holiday cranberry side dish:
- Brussels sprouts
- Bacon
- Dried cranberries
- Garlic
- Red onion
- Brown sugar
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Salt and pepper
- Balsamic vinegar
Prep the bacon Brussels sprouts: 8-10 minutes
First, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the bacon strips until they’re nice and crispy.
While you’re waiting for the bacon to cook, rinse Brussels sprouts in warm, salted water in a large bowl, and let them sit for about 5 minutes. This gets rid of any potential critters! Rinse with cool water and allow to drain completely. Chop them up into quarters so that they cook faster.
Dice up your garlic and onion ingredients
Next, cut up your garlic and red onion. If you have time, pre-measure the rest of your ingredients so they are ready for the next step.
When your bacon strips are finished, drain them on a paper towel, let them cool, and crumble the bacon into pieces. DO NOT GET RID OF THE BACON GREASE, leave the pan right there on the stove!
Cook your Brussels sprouts side dish: 20 minutes
Re-heat the large bacon grease skillet to medium heat. Add the dried cranberries, garlic, red onion, brown sugar, and olive oil to the bacon grease in the pan. Saute the mixture until all ingredients are combined, then add the Brussels sprouts, bacon crumbles, salt, pepper, and balsamic vinegar.
Mix well everything is completely combined and all sprouts are coated. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring once about halfway through.
