Ingredients needed for making banana pudding cups
- Instant vanilla pudding mix (or you can use homemade vanilla pudding from scratch)
- Milk
- Peanut butter sandwich cookies (we like Nutter Butters)
- Bananas
- Frozen whipped topping
- Canning jars
How to make banana pudding cups
To get started with this peanut butter banana dessert, grab a large measuring cup and a mixing bowl and stir the pudding mix and cold milk until thoroughly combined. Set the vanilla pudding aside to soft set for about 5 minutes.
Break up about (6) Nutter Butter cookies in half and set them aside. Pour the rest of the peanut butter cookies into a plastic gallon zipper bag, seal, and crush the cookies with a rolling pin or something similar to it.
Layer peanut butter cookies and pudding into jars
At the bottom of each canning jar, spoon a layer of the peanut butter cookie crumbs. Be sure to reserve some of the Nutter Butter crumbs for the topping at the end!
Next, add a layer of vanilla pudding. Cut one banana in half lengthwise, then cut into slices. Add a layer of banana slices on top of the pudding layer, about 3-4 pieces per jar. Top the bananas with another scoop of vanilla pudding.
Finally, add the whipped topping (Cool Whip works well) to each jar and sprinkle the remaining crushed cookie crumbs onto the top of each one. Put one of the broken cookie halves into each cup so that it is sticking out visibly on the top. Serve these lovely banana pudding desserts asap – take a bite and enjoy!

Banana pudding recipe tips:
- Note: You can use a disposable foil lasagna pan to fit (12) – 1/4-pint canning jars to easily refrigerate and transport your banana pudding cups to your parties and events.
- How do you make banana pudding not runny? Make sure you follow the recipe on the box the best that you can. If this doesn’t work, you can add a little bit of flour or cornstarch to your pudding mixture before you spoon it into the jars.
- If you have any of these left over, refrigerate your peanut butter and banana pudding cups for about 2-3 days.
