Gobble Gobble Rice Krispies Treats Turkey Pops
I am a part of the Kellogg’s Great Starts program, and I have been sharing fun and nutritious cereal bits all year long. I know that we love to eat Kellogg’s cereals for breakfast, so why not use them in a treat recipe? Last year, we made turkeys out of donuts, using candy and frosting to make it an all edible treat. Rice Krispies treats are one of the most popular cereal creations out there, so I thought i’d give them a little twist for Thanksgiving!

These turkey pops were pretty easy to make, and obviously delicious to eat! You basically make the Rice Krispies treats as you normally would, but adding chocolate and rolling them out makes the nice brown turkey base that is much easy to work with. Make these at home, and let your kids do the decorating. We will be making more tonight!

How to make dark chocolate Rice Krispies Treats turkey pops, for Thanksgiving

1. To prepare the Rice Krispies Treats, melt the butter in a large sauce pan. Add the marshmallows and melt the mixture completely. Slowly stir in the chocolate chips, leaving a handful aside for later. When all ingredients are completely combined, remove the pan from heat and slowly stir in the Kellogg’s Rice Krispies cereal with a spatula, making sure they are all coated with the chocolate marshmallow mixture.

2. Transfer the chocolate marshmallow Rice Krispies mixture into your cookie sheet, completely covering the surface and pressing it along the edges. Grab a piece of wax paper large enough to fit the cookie sheet and place it over the mixture. Take a rolling pin and roll it gently over the wax paper covered mixture until it’s nice and flat. Allow them to cool for 20 minutes.

3. Cut your Chocolate Rice Krispies treats into rectangles, about 3 inches or so, and place a lollipop stick into the bottom of each.

4. Now it’s time to take the chocolate chips you set aside and melt them in a sauce pan. This will be your “glue” to stick on the candy to create the turkey. Dab the melted chocolate onto the respective areas where you’d like to stick the candy corn. Once you’ve put on the feathers, eyes and beak, allow your treats to set for about an hour. Store in an air tight container.

I was really excited about how these turned out, I didn’t know how the chocolate would set in the recipe. If you have enough time, make these to hand out at schools, parties, and other Thanksgiving gatherings, you can up the gift presentation by placing each turkey pop in a plastic bag and tie with matching ribbon. They taste great and my kids love them, i’ll be using these as the models for the kids to decorate tonight. I am going to get a little tube of icing so they won’t have to deal with hot melted chocolate. Make sure you add Kellogg’s Rice Krispies to your shopping list!

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
